The word »identity« describes feeling partly identical with an idea, an object, a nationality or an other
human and by that coming towards an image of oneself. We look for these things to overcome the feeling of solitude and otherness. The personal identity determines itself between the poles of our enviroment and ourselves. The interactions with other people and the roles we play are a way to match the image we have of ourselves with the potential image other people have of us. When personal relationships are used to find identity, the authenticity of a true and independent selve has to be questioned. The work »Couples« is an attempt to illustrate the risk of pursuiting an identity in someone else. Two person united. Then seperated. |
